Paper Towns: 4 out of 5 stars

by John Green

Man do I love a road trip movie!

Throw in some teen romance, grand gestures, witty best friends and mystery, well you have a winner in my books.

Quentin Jacobsen has spent a lifetime loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar. So when she cracks open a window and climbs into his life—dressed like a ninja and summoning him for an ingenious campaign of revenge—he follows. After their all-nighter ends, and a new day breaks, Q arrives at school to discover that Margo, always an enigma, has now become a mystery. But Q soon learns that there are clues—and they’re for him. Urged down a disconnected path, the closer he gets, the less Q sees the girl he thought he knew…

Quentin and Margo are childhood friends who grew apart as they grew older and entered high school: Margo became popular while Quentin fell to the sidelines. One night, Margo appears at Quentin’s window asking for a ride…and so starts the craziest night of Quentin’s life with the girl he has always loved.

This is a YA adventure story at its best and Margo’s wild and sarcastic personality is really refreshing for a book in this genre. I really enjoyed this book and I think John Green fast became a favourite author of mine after I read this. He weaves romance and mystery so flawlessly and the ending of this book found a soulful resolution that felt completely in line with Margo’s personality.

Final note: even though books are always better, I still really enjoyed the movie and thought it was cast perfectly – #girlcrush on Cara Delevigne is well and alive!
