[Review] Trouble Makes A Comeback

32573384I received a copy of this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Quick fire review:

This is a really adorable contemporary with all your classic gooey moments. With some laugh out loud antics and some cute romances, this fast paced story is a great weekend read.

After a fall semester of fiascos: getting arrested, then kidnapped, then blown up in an explosion (all thanks to the weird but brilliant Philip Digby), Zoe Webster is looking forward to a quiet spring. Now that Digby has left town, she’s finally built a regular high school life for herself. She’s dating Miles, the alternate QB; she knows girls she considers friends; she’s learning to enjoy being normal and semi-popular. Which of course is when Digby comes back: He’s got a new lead on his missing sister and he needs Zoe’s help.

Suddenly Zoe is tussling with a billionaire arch-villain, locking horns with armed goons, and digging into what makes the Digby family tick, even as she tries to navigate the confusing and emotionally fraught world of high school politics and locker-room drama. After all, it’s hard to explain Digby to a boy like Miles, especially when Zoe isn’t sure how she feels about Digby herself—or how he feels about her.

Now that Digby’s back, get ready for another hilarious whodunit filled with razor-sharp dialogue, ridiculously funny action, and the most charismatic, dynamic duo you’ve ever met. And just try to stay out of trouble.

3.5 out of 5 stars

So I admittedly did not realise this was book 2 in a series when I requested this and have not read book 1 so this will simply be a breakdown of my thoughts rather than a full review.

* This book is populated with fun and wonderful characters. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Zoe and Digby but I was particularly taken by the misfit kids who made up the rest of the gang.

* The writing in this is really fun, witty and heartfelt and it certainly made for an adorable read. The story is incredibly fast paced and as far as contemporaries go, it has all the gooey parts that make for a good read.

* There are some great laugh out loud moments thanks to Tromly’s stellar writing as well as some hilarious hijinks by Zoe and the gang.

* Downside? A love triangle

Has anyone read book 1? Would love to know your thoughts.

    I haven’t read this one or the prequel but a love triangle really does sound like too much to bear… I’m just so tired of them! Unless they are written well, that is. But seeing as this is a contemporary, it might not be the case.
    Lovely review, by the way 🙂
